White Cement Use

White Cement Use

White cement is around three times more expensive than grey Ordinary Portland (OP), and
tends to be used for fine detailing, rendering or as a laying bed under paving slabs that are
likely to be affected by grey staining emanating through more porous types of stone, provided
it is used with a neutral coloured sand.

It is finer than OP, with comparable strength when used with selected sands and aggregates.
Its lack of compressive tension (plus expense) prevents it from being used in concrete
foundations. It creates a mortar that is both sticky and durable, naturally waterproof, requiring
no additional measures when used in paving and walling projects.

Also available as Off White, it is a shade between OP grey and White Cement, it produces a
light-coloured mortar which may suit some designs.

It has a shelf-life of only three months, being hygroscopic (absorbing moisture) and will have
a ‘best-by’ date on the packaging.
