Brick Paving Using a Variety of Different Types
Another farmhouse, this time a new building, constructed externally using all reclaimed materials for the house and garden walls.
This front entrance patio has been laid entirely using old reclaimed bricks, all laid over a 100mm deep concrete base. Using string lines to ensure a straight pattern wide bricks and thin ones are married together using brick on edge/tiles on edge and any hard surface to complete the row. The effect is striking, and as the patio weathers down, it will quickly become soft on the eye.
Once again, the secret is to use only those materials that you are sure are hard enough to wear and not become frost damaged. If in any doubt, discard anything you suspect may be softer than the rest. All of the materials used on this patio were at least one hundred years old, having been salvaged from elsewhere on site (old farm).
